Nose cover, selector shaft, shift rails, output flanges, and flip the ring gear over. That last item requires a not insignificant investment in tools and substantial knowledge. The Cap'n

I am aware of the issues with r&p, from watching others deal with it.

From PET, looks like I need:

901.301.221.01 intermediate plate
901.301.031.12 end plate
901.332.209.12 flange (2)
901.302.132.11 shift selector

I'm guessing the intermediate plate bearings too...

before long it will be as cheap for you to buy a used 915 and replace what you have...

less labor
less fabrication
and you can recoup some of your money by selling off parts from the fried 915 you remove.

The 901 and 911 trannies have a threaded boss on the intermediate plate for the throttle bell crank. If this is a project for your 74 911, you will also need the intermediate plate, or some way to mount the bell crank rod on the one you have, a flywheel, a clutch kit, and a new clutch cable, as well as the shifter assembly, the shift rod, and shift coupler. Oh, and the locating fork from the side of a tail shifter trans. This is getting to be a fairly major project, no?

There is a dummy boss on the intermediate plate of the 901. You can drill it and tap it for placing the stud for the bell crank.

Perhaps sell off some of your good 914/901 parts to help fund the replacement 915?

putting a 901 tranny into your 911 is going hurt your resale also.

Its not untypical to find another 300-400 worth of bearings and misc. items once you start the project also.

Mike,

is the dummy boss the same for a 901 and a 914 tranny...

he wants to flip the R/P and install the 914 tranny into a 2.7 911 chassis in place of his bad 915

I'm pretty sure the nose cone of the aluminum 901s won't fit a 914 intermediate plate. (I have a 902 and it's close, but the bolt pattern is a little different, and I think the 902 and aluminum 901 take the same intermediate plate)

You'd have to make sure you found a magnesium nose cone, I don't know what year 911s have magnesium 901s though.

It sounds like with all the work & money needed to make a 901 work, you might be better off just repairing/replacing the 915.

I'm looking into doing the same thing in a bus. Same idea basically. I read here on how some of the guys are using 914 trannys with 901 nose cones. http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/forumdisp....php?forumid=13
