Most of us have already heard that Tweeks (MAM)will not be holding a Porsche Funfest this year due to poor turnout. Well, apparently they also felt that there was not enough sales genrated by Porsche owners to have them continue selling Porsche related parts.

I spoke to Brad Mayeur yesterday who just retrned from their Swap Meet. Brad told me that Tweeks is closing out their entire Porsche parts inventory. Tweeks from now on will only sell Corvette and VW parts. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) I wonder if they are going to cut prices to get rid of inventory?

That's too bad. I enjoyed the Porsche Funfest (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) I figured that something was up when I didn't get my catalog from them.

I haven't had any dealings with Tweeks in probably 25 years (since I had 356s). Back then they were the best, the David against Stoddard's Golaith. Their swap meets were always fun. I'm sorry to see them go.

Back in the 70s, there were many people selling parts like Tweeks. It was fun and mostly amateur, but there were some good deals around. Tweeks was first run out of the back room of an Indianapolis veterinary clinic, as the two brothers were veterinary students when they started. As businesses get bigger, the more profit motivated they have to be, and nobody can blame MidAmerica for wanting to make a profit.

It's a shame because they did a good job and were pretty fairly priced. The Funfest was a good time, but it was quite a haul from the Chicago area, and very hot when it was held in the summer. Porsche itself has changed their philosophy to not really caring about the old cars at all, where they once promised to always have parts available for their models, no matter what year. Again, profit over history.

I bought stuff for the 914 and the bug both from Midamerica, did me right.

Shame about Porsche abandoning their heritage, we need to get everyone to dog them. I was looking at a Cayman for a next car, if the Honda ever dies, which appears unlikely. I asked a guy at the dealer about some part numbers and he acted like I was insane, then started to kiss my ass a bit when he found the mirror in Stuttgart, liquidate it so they don't need to store it.

The "B" in PB Tweeks is Dr. Brett Johnson, author of the various restoration guides for Porsches, including the 914.
In the 70's and 80's Tweeks and Performance Products were "the" sources for Porsche parts, all catalog/phone order. Now it's Pelican on the web which probably caused Mid American to give up the P car business.

Welll Crap ....

Another resource gone.

I went to the funfests - missed one. While they were pricey on some items they had some decent prices too. I think that they really did not understand what they got into.

First Doc n' Cy's now Tweeks. At least we still have Brad Mayeur and Perry Kiehl (hope I spelled that right).

Wonder what ever happed to the stash of parts at Doc n' Cy's? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

I Just Got Off the Phone with MidAmerica...

THEY ARE STILL SELLING PORSCHE PRODUCTS, AND DO NOT PLAN TO STOP

They just aren't producing the printed catalog for them. Online sales will continue as usual.

I was always a Automotion fan in the '80's.

Very cool catalog with great 914 pictures.

Automotion was bought/merged with Performance Products. Does anyone remember Electrodyne or Imparts?

Too bad if it's true. Really enjoyed the old swap meet days. Picked up lots of parts & a ton of posters (which I need to get rid of!).

The Johnson's were cool guys in the 70's & 80's but haven't been a part of for a while, as I understand it.

Can't blame anyone for trying to be profitable though...that is what free enterprise is built on. Still......
