Engine pull Sunday March 11; pizza for all.

My 914 has been idle for too long and it's time to do something about it. Primary goal is to get the engine on the ground for a tranny rebuild and replacement of the rear main seal. Clutch replacement is a real possibility also. First step is to pull the engine/tranny so I can determine what's needed. I have a lift in the shop so that part should be pretty easy. After we've got my car out of the way, anyone who wants a look under their car or needs a quick fix, we can put it up on the rack.

Let me know who's interested and we can flesh out the details. Looking forward to some garage time with 914 guys. It's been awhile.

There's a possibility I'll be on a business trip then. If not, I would love to attend and try to help with my limited abilities.

I'll probably only have the Miata available... I'll park it around the corner to avoid embarrassment.

I need to be drinking wine and eating fancy food in Seattle at 2:00. I can help in the morning. If we start early enough I can make it.

James - look forward to seeing you again; it's been a few years. Tell Jon he should bring his tail dragger down.

Michael (98101) - Don't worry about the Miata, we can hide it in the trees. Look forward to meeting you.

Juergen - sorry you can't make it; we'll have to catch up soon.

Kevin - are you going to be there?

I'm thinking to start around noon. How does that sound?

Going to try Marc. Get the car on the lift and the rear tires removed before hand. You going to rebush the linkage 'while you're in there'? Do you have a spline tool for the cv bolts? Drain the gear lube before the drop. I have the correct hex socket for the plugs. Want me to mail it to you so you have it on hand? Get a can of brake cleaner.

Put me down as a 'maybe'. I've only pulled the transmission (about a dozen times) but haven't done the engine yet. Would love to witness/help with an engine removal.
PM me your address and time you want to start when you get a chance and hopefully I'll be able to attend.

Anyone in the PNW planning on coming to Victoria in the very near future. I will pay your ferry to get here, if you can pick up some rocker panels and Valance on your way through Bellingham.

If anyone wants another project in their garage, I'll have a used sideshift transmission available eventually ... maybe sometime this year. A Dr. Evil rebuild is on a westbound truck as we speak. But then it will just sit for a long time because I'm waiting on Tangerine Racing's shift linkage, and Foley says he's backed up for weeks.

No word on how my car is doing at Chris's German Auto.

I've sent photos of my wrecked center console to Rich's shop in Kingston and he's confident he can redo it (which means I wouldn't have to redo the whole dashboard to move the controls to their stock location). I'm not sure the sequence I should follow. If I drove the car right now, the heater controls would be bouncing all around, which can't be good for the cables and stuff. There may be some way to zip tie them to something temporarily.

A noon startup might put some attendees in a sheduling bind. Perhaps begin a bit earlier? I know I would prefer it but I wake up at 4am. My day is half over by noon. Maybe start a stand alone thread about the work party?

Ya. How about a first shift? We might have it done before the second shift starts.

Or they can clean up our mess

OK, let's change things up a little. First, I think moving the starting time up a little is a good idea - let's make it 10:00. Second, I'm debating whether I should just pull the tranny, since the only work on the engine is to replace the rear seal and check the flywheel.

I'll start a separate thread and post details there.
