SO...planning for my summer project, a rebuild of a 914, to make it look 'mean'.. complete tear down, paint, build back up with 7" and 9" flars, GT rockers, and the works, already got a 'normal' teener, want something different. But i was just curious, how do u attatch the fiberglass flares?

most guys screw em on , then trace to area to cut , then un screw em, then cut the steel and grind the bonding area, then screw em back on and glass them on outside and in, then remove screws and glass over screw holes.

theres the way i see it cliffs notes style.

TIP:

put on the rockers first (temporary, but in the correct place), then align the flares to the rockers. otherwise, you'll never ever get them to align right ...

*don't* leave the mounting screws in there and glass over them, it *will* crack if you do that.

get some advice from a good bodyshop on what materials to use, especially the bonding agent between the flares and the bare metal.
there's a HUGE differences in quality ...

Nah, I'm not worried about that. I am fairly sure I will end up ripping off or smashing a flare. Easier to get off and slap another one on when riveted.

Use a rivet for that hard core look. You can put some molding around the edge of the glass fender and make it look pretty good. The other ways take way to much time and the results can be sketchy. The next set I do will be rivited on.
