The box in the trunk with lines to the engine compartment is probably the charcoal canister - traps gas fumes from tank vent and sends them to the intake.

You'll get lots of opinions about the dream motor. It really depends on your budget.

Carbs are not desirable on a motor with a stock cam. If you have a hot cam then you'll need carbs, or better yet a tunable aftermarket FI (such as Megasquirt).

if its in front trunk floor its a AC unit not a charcoal canister.

Is this the original 1.8l motor that came with this 76 as not many did (25 only)?

The hot setup for a 1.8L is to install 96mm P&C's and a better cam. If its FI then a Raby cam and lifters will wake it up and you keep the FI.

just talking about those of us who had ac in thier car and removed it, then had/have to patch the front trunk. the dealers typically hacked the hole to get air to the condenser. no body i have heard of makes this replacement piece, but i am really a newbie myself. now if you want to keep ac thats a differant story.

anyone contemplating putting on a single carb needs a kick in the nads (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/icon8.gif)

most expensive part of the a/c is the under the dash venting assembly....the rest of the stuff is easy and now would be a good time to install a more modern a/c assembly from another car...

If you have to buy them, why not spend less money and get a modern programmable FI system instead? Not arguing, just curious. Hasn't Jake moved to FI now?
