Ok, so I have 911 flag mirrors. When I went to install these mirrors I noticed that the passenger side base was modified and that it caused the mirror to angle down slightly. Soooo, I found a used base that was unmodified and promptly went to mock it up. What I found was that the stock, unmodified base does not match the angle of the door. The unmodified base, does even though it is at the wrong angle.

Qs: Do the passenger side bases need to be modified to fit our doors? How does it need to be done so that I do not repeat the same mistake as the PO on the ones that I had? Is there a part number that fits stock with out mods? I have the 026 base for a 911.

Thanks....man I am sick of goofing with these damn mirrors (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

I think all flag mirrors need mods to fit a 914. Seems like I heard that 928 flag mirros needed less mods though.

I have a set I plan to use, and when the time comes I plan to just file em until they fit. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

It's been 20 years but I don't remember modifying mine. I cut a square hole in the door and used the backing plate.

Only the 911 base will work on the 914 as far as I know. That is what I have on mine. You have to place it right for the correct angle. I will snap a pic later of both sides on mine. They are sitting at the correct level for me to see from both sides of the car however, they are not located the same place on each sideThe passenger side is lower than the drivers side for the correct level.

I may have gone too far. I wanted semmetry so I placed the passenger mirror at the same measurements as the drivers. For the stock base there is no way I can see the angles matching up. Pics of it later.

I used this pic from another member here to set the drivers side mirror.

Mike, You may have a 944 base. All the 911 bases I looked at fit. Also, set the passenger side as far forward as possible.

FYI-I have 944 mirrors on 911 bases. Interesting thing was the 944 and 911 are wired to the switches differently.

Good Luck

Hey Jim,
If the 944 bases have 911 starting part numbers then it is likely. I am thinking that it must be my choice of location. I can salvage this (I hope). The holes are in the door already (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

I had to modify my flag 1986 911 mirrors to fit correctly to the contour of the 914 door. It took a die grinder and careful removal of material one bit at a time until they fit. The critical thing is the mounting hole and reinforcement plate...you get off even an 1/8" and the mirror rides too high or too low. Go slowly with the grinder and be patient!

944 mirrors have a 928 part no. I believe. They DO NOT have a 911/901 number. I have a couple sets a 944 mirrors I'll check to be sure for whatever it's wurth (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)

That E. Coli is some baaaad shit! Good luck with the mirrors. I did mine a few weeks ago and mounted them just a tad high but they still look OK.

911 bases only..944 and 928 doors don't have the more horizontal flat places like the 911/914 doors. The pictures above with the measurements are my car...I didn't have to modify the bases. Likewise make sure you use the reinforcement plates that go on the insides of the doors. I actually riveted mine on to make it easy to take on/off the mirros.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) I most definetly used the base plates. I have the one side screwed in (because it is fitting correctly) and will do the other side when it cooperates. I can use the plate to slightly adjust the mirror position. i will take pics soon I pormise. Tooooooo much studying.
