Porsche starts it's model numbers with a 9. Then comes a two digit identifier:

11: the classic six cylinder 911
12: the cheap model four cylinder
14: their best model yet
28: the eight cylinder monster

etc...

Only one of those numbers is in the teens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Don't forget the other teen numbers Porsche used. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The 916 was based on our beloved 914. Then there is the 917. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) I am delighted to be in the company of these other two exceptional Teeners.

917 is just a souped up 914. Bigger engine and bigger tires that all.

Yeah. The only real differences are the titanium tubular spaceframe, windtunnel shaped fiberglass body panels, completely different block, crank, heads and basic engine design. Also the 917 came out first and was nowhere close to a street car...... Other than that, they're basically the same.
