Mike,
Stay away from Oahu. Google Napili Point on Maui. Great place with good snorkeling for you and the monsters, right outside the door. The daily rate includes a rental car. We've been staying there for years and love it.
Cheers, Elliot

Maui is the place. Lahina, Hana, black sand beach, red sand beach, seven sacred

pools, bambo forests. Aaahhhhh paradise. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)

Oahu is not quiet...maybe in the country on the backside but not in Honolulu....if you really want quiet try Kauai, near spouting horn out of Poipu beach...close to poipu and far enough from that end...or Honelei(sp) on the wet end...stay away from Princeville and Honelei and you'd be ok...great beaches for kids...Hula heiau...trailhead for Napilli...etc. If you are interested in Kauai I may have a hookup for a rental..Jim

I agree with Elliot. We have been to Oahu twice and Maui once. Loved Maui just liked Oahu. When we go back it will be to Maui.

We're going to Kauai in 2 weeks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif) Went there (North Shore / Hanalei) in 2000 and have wanted to go back ever since. This time we are visiting friends so will be staying around Lihue / Poipu in the southeast part. I'll try to take lots of pics...

To reiterate, Mikey's rugrats want someplace LESS quiet. Waikiki Beach is pretty un-quiet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rocking nana.gif)

The most exciting thing Kauai has going on is the Walmart that everyone converges at. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chairfall.gif)

Sorry for the hijack, but, I was just looking through a World Book Encyclopedia for Oahu that my mom gave me and found a flier dated July 10, 1966 from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Recreation Club where my mom and dad use to work... it was offering "5 Islands in 15 days for $495.00 per person. Oahu with Honolulu and Waikiki plus 10 full days on the neighbor Islands Maui-Hawaii-Molokai-Kauai with 2 meals each day and a Ala Carte Dining all First Class Resort Accommodations" this includes Airfare. It mentioned that Hawaii's sales tax is 4%.

I wonder what that would costs today?

To me, going somewhere quiet (and scenic) IS pretty darn exciting! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif) If I want noisy, dirty and congested, I just go to work in West L.A. like usual (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)

I agree, Kauai was beautiful. I was just there over X-mas. It's just funny to see EVERYONE at walmart. I was talking to someone that grew up there, and he said that's the happening spot on the island. HA!

lahina was too quiet? jeez, the town was packed when i was there (the whole town smelled like the boardwalk in santa cruz too). we stayed in "old" Kihei in a 1 bed condo for roughly $75 a night, across the street from a park on the water. kihei was very nice. there was also a biz where you could rent harleys and VIPERS for the day. i don't remember the name of the condos. pm me if you would like some contact info mike, and i'll get it for you.

so...you haven't booked your flight yet? ouch$$$. one airline flys directly to maui (kahului) now.

Too quiet for THEM....I thought it was fine. I lived there for a summer and worked the sport fishing boats as a deck hand when I was single.

Great fun...hung at the Lahaina Yacht Club....a sleazy bar on Broad Street.

Anyhow....I have 162K miles on my United card....can't seem to figure out how to get a flight AND a hotel/condo in one package.....everyone will SELL me a package.

Hey there,

try vrbo.com, vacation rental by owner. If you have something to trade most owners are up for that.
