I just purchased a redtop 34R for my car. It seems to be alittle too wide for the tray. Did any of you have to modify the tray to get it to fit? Other question,
Are there different types of the 34R or no? Only way it fits ok is if I lay it on it's side. Then, you would want the standard non-reversed terminals. Which needless to say I dont have. |

Did you get the black plastic feet with yours? You have to snap them on the base of the optima and then it will fit in the stock battery tray with the stock hold-down clamp.

Anthony, I didnt get feet with mine. I take it the feet elevate the battery? Is that the Group 78 GM puck adapter that was discussed in the previous thread?
Right now I have it on its side. Looks pretty cool like that and fits perfect. I ran a large rubber strap around it to secure it. Should work untill I get the feet. Thanks. If you have a part number on them, that would be great. Thanks |

Mine fit fine. One side is a bit elevated because the battery is a bit too wide, but it is snug and does not move at all.

I called Optima at: 1 800 292 4359 to get the Group 78 puck adaptor for the 34R that I ordered online.

Thats what I meant, the one side is elevated when put in normally. Does that adapter level it? Knowing that, I would of ordered the regular 34 and put it on its side. The 34R on its side,
has the posts close to the tray which I dont care for. Enough clearance, but it would of been better the other way. |

I bought a Triad Optima battery plate has four bolts that hold the battery to the plate, and then you bolt the plate to the battery tray using the stock hole

QUOTE Anthony, I didnt get feet with mine. I take it the feet elevate the battery? Is that the Group 78 GM puck adapter that was discussed in the previous thread? I don't know but I'm guessing that the puck adaptor is what you need. They are plastic feet that snap on to the bottom of the battery which allows it to slip under the lip of the battery tray and under the hold down clamp. |

To help end the confusion on this I took some shots this weekend:
Here is the Optima 34 with a stock clamp. The stock clamp I am told, can cut into the battery if used this way. Note the locatoin of the terminal posts: Attached image(s) ![]() |

Here is the preferred 34R battery. See how the posts are closer to stock?

Here are the two clamps side by side for comparison. In thinking about it, I think I did need to use a utility knife to shave off a teeny little bit of the base of the battery to make it fit nicely into the stock tray. It was a miniscule amount and did not cut into the cell housing.

Interesiting. The plastic tabs I got with my battery are totally different. They snap on to the bottom of the battery, extend the base a little, and it fits fine with the stock clamp.

I noticed on yours that the batterie doesnt have the extra material on the edge which is keeping mine from a proper fit. I assume thats what you carved off? I just had them to send me that adapter. Think I will see if they can send the snap on 1s also. Meantime, it's rock solid laying on it's side. Thanks for the pictures.
