In driving my 914 turbo Ford I have found that I can't get much above 3500 rpm. I suspect that the Bosch pump might not be compatible with the Ford EFI. I kept the pump because it is externally mounted (vs. tank mount for the Ford pump) and I saw a guy who was successfully running a 280ZX pump (which I think is basically the same as the 914 pump) on his EFI 5.0 HO Bronco. Does anyone know the basics of the fuel pressure vs. rpm curve for a stock pump on a 1973 1.7? I think I need about 30 psi at idle and 70 psi max.

QUOTE(914turboford @ Oct 3 2003, 11:39 AM) Does anyone know the basics of the fuel pressure vs. rpm curve for a stock pump on a 1973 1.7? I think I need about 30 psi at idle and 70 psi max. there is no curve. it's good for about 35 psi and it'll deliver that at flow rate commensurate with a 135 HP 2,0 DJet at 5600 rpm or so. you might be able to get ~65 PSI with a Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) pump but of course you'll need something that can deliver adequate volume - something from a 911 or 944 Turbo might work. there's an aftermarket pump some Rennlist guys were using as a DJet replacement, seemed like it had a lot of pressure but the stock 914 regulator was able to deal with it... can't recall who made it. Moroso ? Holley ? IAC - a DJet isn't gonna get you anywhere near 70 psi at the volumes you need... |

That would explain the 3500 rpm ceiling! I guess I'd better look into a higher volume/pressure pump.

QUOTE(gklinger @ Oct 3 2003, 12:51 PM) Rich, is this the one you're thinking of...? MSD 2225 YUP ! thanks ! that helps my memory lapse, but i donno if it'll help the original problem. if 70-ish psi is really needed, it appears the only answer may be in something more suited to the original engine, or something from a CIS car of equivalent HP output... |

Hmm - I think I am going to need something a bit jucier for my 280 HP subaru beast eh?
Add it to the list. Where is the smiley that is perpetually laying out cash....? Fiid. |

Yep, spend money.
My stock 75-75 fuel pump did ~85psi wide open. Currently using it on my Nissan6 but seems to die out above 5k. So I'm going to guess it's only good for about 200hp. The Maxima engine is regulated @ 43psi. pn 2225, on my list of upgrades- @ Jegs.com for ~$77. Oh, the fuel pressure stays the same throughout the rpm range, unless you are running a rising-rate fpr. Regards, Chris |
