I found a car near by me the is all in german yellow primer, has no rust anywhere on the normal places, is very straight, Original Engine & Transmission, Rare Rear Window Defogger, New Clutch, New Engine Gaskets, New Brakes, New Rear Koni Shocks, New Rear Springs. For the bad: needs new carpet, the second gear syncro is "tired" and needs new rubber weatherstripping. Just from that description could you guys throw me out some numbers. Thanks

We need to know the condition, mileage, condition, year, condition, engine size and other details. Photos would be nice...

These cars can be fairly priced at $13K (see the eBay car the other day?) and overpriced at $500. Its all about condition.

Ok went down and checked it out and........not worth 4kfirm the guy was asking. Has five or six surface rust spots and two deeper spots around the fender seams. The interior was crappy, no radio. The doors didn’t line up correctly meaning either body sag or accident. So that’s the report. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) here’s the prize for whoever guessed closest. I know I’m gonna get flamed on this one but one of the guys working there overheard me talking about auto-x racing and how i was looking for a nice little 914 to start. He asked if maybe I would consider a 944(blasphemy). I told him that I was more pushing towards a 914 and he started telling me about this 85 944 that he has and needs to get rid of with a new timing belt, clutch, perfect low mileage engine, nice cosmetic condition etc........for $1500. Any responses as far as the 944's as auto-x cars? Feel free to kick me off now.

'85.5 is an OK car, '85 proper, wouldn't even look at it.

I wouldn't look at any 944, I would buy another 914.

Andrew,

If autocross is your goal then go for a 914...
If however you intend to enter drivers ed/club racing or track driving, then you may want to consider a 944.

In stock-ish trim the 944 is the superior track car.
Check out the production classes of PCA club racing.
these cars are not really anywhere near stock, and the 944 and 924S are far superior on the track.

I can say this because I've been racing against the 944s for 8 years.
