I can t for the life of me figure out how to get the original shift knob off of the car to remove the center console.
I guess it has a retainer but I cant figure out how to remove it. I removed a non stock one from my other car and it gouged the shift rod I would like to not do this this time |

Put a 15mm wrench on the shaft, right below the knob.
Tap the wrench (upwards) with a hammer. It should pop off. It shouldn't scratch, but if you're worried about it, wrap the shaft with some tape. -Rusty (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif) |

First I tried the straight pull methood. Didn't work. Then I tried that (wrench tapping) ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)
Chipped the bottom and cracked the side. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Now I'm out $90 for a new one. Then I just pulled and pulled with my bare hands, off it came only to find some PO had siliconed it on instead of buying the little shift knob clip to fasten it on with. |

I would go with a Momo. I have one and it totally rocks. It uses grub screws to mount to the shaft and is utterly rock solid. Plus it looks really good.

Go to an autocrooss and hang on to the shifter knob as you are taking a hard left turn in 3rd at max rpm. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Needless to say that was not my best time. Since than my shift knob is just stuck on and it reminds me to go easy on my 30 year old linkage/tranny. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

the method that i have found to be most successful is under breaking while heading on into turn five at Road America, and attempting to downshift into 2nd, but at least the run off area is real nice.......
