Well, after two months of farting around, I decided to take my car to a pro.
It's alive again! The problem was nothing I could not have found, but it was worth the money!! Apparently the #2 intake valve backed out its adjuster so the nut fell off! Fotunately this is a flat four, so the nut did not interfere with anything critical, and I am now running again!! Boy, it feels good! I also fixed the "fuel pump running all the time" problem, and probably the missing that I experienced on the way home from California. The "camlike thingie" on the airflow sensor hit the fuel pump contact and forced the fuel pump off at certain manifold pressures! Now I am back to the issues we all experience: inspection, registration, tires, little broken bits, etc, etc, etc! Lots left to do.... Thanks to all who helped me with these problems! I learned a lot (more than I wanted!)!!! Jeff |
