i have a '73 1.7 with 133,000 miles. (dont no if it makes a difference) when im goin about 40 the i down shift and have the clutch in and hit the throttle i hear a rattle the sounds like it comes from the tunnel. could it be the shift ram, or a cable of some sort? i dont really no what it is.

clutch tube has broken lose inside the center tunnel. very common. do a search here for a fix (you'll need a welder for that) ...
and while you're in there, check and make sure it hasn't also broken lose on the rear firewall. if so, more welding ...
