I just turned 800 miles on my rebuilt engine, and it's getting it's third oil change. Looking very closely at the bottom of the engine, I found some seepage...
1. oil pickup screen cover plate. 2. oil drain plug 3. oil pressure regulator cover screw The first two are well in hand, I think. They also aren't exactly leaking, just wet with oil. No droplets are forming. The oil pressure regulator cover bolt is seeping, however. Oil had made it's way down the crankcase to the fins on the bottom. No sign of oil on the garage floor yet, but I want to attend to it. When I tightened it, I seem to recall torquing it to maybe 10 ft-lbs. I have a drag link socket that I used in the slot on the head..... My question is- how tight? I'm paranoid that I'll crack my case if I'm not REALLY careful. I can't find any reference to torque.... I think I went by thread pitch the first time around, not size (M14 I think), to come up with a torque number. I don't want to remove it until I have a new sealing ring in hand. I thought I'd just check the torque until the next oil change in the fall. Any advice? |

You can change it now if you like. Very little to no oil will come out. Just be quick when you do it.
It is called a "closing cover" in the factory manuels, but I cant find the torque settings. B |
