but wikipedia told me that the Bearcat started in 1911 - the car in question is from 1907 - besides this, the front hood area looks significant different

I-4 as in it has an inline 4. I don't have the magazine handy either. But that is car 2 (obviously) and the one in the magazine was #8.

American la France Type 5

No clue. But it looks like it should have wings. Possibly made by Cessna, or some other air manufacturer?
