what a joke ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

here's the whole story:

PCA in zone 7 assigns numbers for 3 different event types, Zone AX, Local (GGR) AX and Zone Time Trial.

PCA maintains a online list of used (unavailable) car numbers and the person that number is assigned to.

when i got my PCA membership in 2004 i applied for the #172 for all three event types as that number was not listed in their online list.

i got *approved* for all three event types and was assured my number was unique and would stay that way.

several weeks went by and i had already attended a few events using my new number and i noticed that my name and number was not listed in their online list.
so i contacted PCA and they assured me that they had me on file and that the online list was not up to date and not to worry about it.

i took that assurance and went ahead and got myself some nice big number-stickers (thanks sean!). although those are theoretically removeable, they would most certainly take off the paint with them.
that's why i hesitated to put them on the car until i had double checked with PCA.

1.5 years fast forward, browsing through the PCA online list of car numbers i find that someone else is now listed with #172! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif)

so, i email the guy in charge of the numbers and he tells me that he's new to the job and that he never got a "offline" list when he started, so he went with what was online. (remember, they told me that list was "out of date" two years ago!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

so now he tells me that i'm basically fucked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif) ...

gotta find myself a new number, rip off the paint from my doors, get a new set of number stickers made, respray the doors and put on new stickers ...

what a clusterfuck!

the paint is crappy single-stage that just comes off if you stare at it for 5 seconds ... it won't hold up, i know as it has already come off in other spots ...

Can you appeal this decision to someone? Club president? Maybe the new owner of #172 will give it up?

i tried the former, no dice ... dunno how to get in touch with the lucky new owner. all i got is his name from the online list ...
anybody know a "Roger Russell" ???

looks like it's time to pick a new number ...

mhhhmmmmm, just had an idea! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

what if i have sean make me a new number with a white circle background that just barely fits over the old one?
you think the vinyl is thick enough so you don't see the old number through it?

not enough space on the sticker ...

i might be able to swap the 7 or 2 for something else, problem is, pretty much *all* numbers below 200 are already taken ...

If you have proof that you had the # before they assigned it to someone else YOU shouldn't have to give it up....

Andy, do you remember who you talked to about your number situation?
let me know....Trekkor can try his avenue, and I have my contacts. IF you spoke to who I think you did, he is a very nice guy and would try to make it right for you.

GGR permanent #s are only good if you use them each year. If you go over 1 year with out attending an event using that number it is considered fair game.

If this does not apply to you then I would try to prove that you have used the number in the last year and then attempt to get them to change the other driver's number. Especially if he is using magnetics or tape and you have more permanent #s. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

i'm currently in email contact with Larry Adams and he pretty much told me i'm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif)

here's a record of my attendance with #172:

GGR 2004.04.10 Alameda
LPR 2004.04.25 Marina
GGR 2004.05.02 Golden Gate Fields
Zone 2004.05.15 Reno 2 Day Event
GGR 2004.06.05 Candlestick
LPR 2005.05.22 Marina
GGR 2005.06.11 Alameda
RWR 2005.07.23 SONOMA COUNTY AIRPORT
GGR 2006.04.22 Alameda
GGR 2006.05.13 Alameda

NOTE: no TT on that list, but according to the current PCA website, the "new" guy did not request #172 for TT, so i *should* be good there ...

if needed, i still have all the old emails from 2004 with PCA assuring me that i had nothing to worry about ...
