Will get them from Rich Johnson if they have the same mount dimensions as standard Boxster calipers.

I dont think so. The bolt spacing is definately the same but I dont know about the offset or height. The BoxS uses the 996 caliper (just painted red). The 996/BoxS stuff bolts right to a base Box (the hub carriers are the same) but I dont know how much the hats/offsets are in the rotor vs the caliper. I have a pair of 996s in the garage if you need me to measure anything, but bill verburg and I had a good discussion on this over on the bird board a few months back if you do a search. The problem is the rotor dims. I dont have my data in front of me but I think they use a 28mm rotor. Different than any other early porsche (except I think a 951). The base box uses a 24mm rotor wich is = to carrera. The 993 and 930 rotors are 32(?) mm wide. The stock 996 rotor hat is all wrong to fit on a 911 hub (and its one piece so you cant simply make another hat). You'd have to find an aftermarket two-peice rotor and make hats. I dont have a clue if the 951 rotor can be adapter to a 911. Its far simpler (and cheaper) to stick w/ box calipers on carrera rotors, or 993 calipers on 930 rotors. I guess its possible to shave the pins (and pads) to fit them over a 32mm rotor like some guys do w/ the 993 rears. Im shimming the bridge of mine so I dont have to mess w/ that every pad change (Im putting 993s on the tail dragger)

Best,
SMD

There was a 914-6 profiled in the October 2006 issue of Excellence that uses Boxster calipers with adapters made by TRE Motorsports. Hope this may help.

I think Andy has Brembo 993 or Turbo brakes up front.

My car has standard Boxster brakes on all fours that do a great job. I don't know where the adapters came from.

His and TRE are for standard Boxster calipers (Brembo Monoblock) but not all "S" depending on the part number. Anyone know the differences?

I found some adapters at msroadrace store on eBay... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Those 993 adaptors use the big red calipers. They are huge and uses thicker rotors.

I'm not sure about the "s" calipers, but what I have on my project are boxster monoblocks using the carrera 24mm front rotors and sc 20 mm rear rotors. From what I've read about the "s" calipers is that they use a 28 mm front and 24 mm rear. So pretty much all it does is it allows for wider rotors and the pistons are bigger.

That's the combo for standard Boxster calipers, what I need are the 996/Boxster S. Chris Julian said he has all the dimensions for the required rotors since he installed the 996TT calipers. Talking about huge, I wanted Cayenne calipers but would have to get special brackets fabricated. Gotta fill those 18" wheels... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

What rotors (and hat) are you using? Thats what controls the dimensions of the adapter. Buying the adapter before the rotor is putting the cart before the horse.

instant-G's has an adapter kit with special machined 996 hubs, wheel bearings, seals and caps, and two adapters, hardware. It uses stock 996 330x34mm (13 x 1.34") ventilated rotors which is good from the wear replacement aspect. FYI, min wheel size is 17".

Chris fabbed his own brackets to fit 996TT calipers and turned down 930 rotors to 12.45" to fit in 16" HRE modular wheels.

No response from VCI yet.

Felix, The 34mm wide rotor is for the 996TT and 993TT brakes. BoxS/996 calipers are *NOT* 996TT calipers. The BoxS/996 use a 28mm rotor. Which caliper do you have?

AFAIK, those 993tt/996tt kits use the 993tt rotor since it will fit over an early 911 hub easily w/ a custom hat. Chris turned down larger rotors close to that of a 930 so they will fit under his wheels (right thickness, but 930s are too small to start w/ - I think only 12". That why he haad to start w/ the larger OD rotor).

You cant easily put 996 rotors on a 911 because the 996 slip over the hub, the 911 bolt behind the hub. Even if you redrilled the 996 bolt holes to the right size, the hat is about 15mm deeper - the rotor will likely hit the strut or leave zero room for the caliper between it and the strut. It looks possibe to turn down the OD of a 911 hub to fit the 996 rotor (about 160mm ID), but its going to take ALOT of meat off the 911 hub. Strength might be an issue. I *THINK* timmons machines a 951 hub for some of his kits but that has been just speculation on the boards.

FWIW, I have 996 hubs, brakes, rotors, and 911/930 hubs in the garage to try and figure all this stuff out. It doesn't look really easy to fit 996 brakes to a 911/914 (which is why I bought a 993 backup set;) You're best bet is to find some aftermarket brembo/alcon rotor thats 28mm thick and make a custom hat. Then it'll be a no brainer.

Edit: looking at the timmons kit its definately a 996 part (well, technically a 996tt part). Maybe the 996tt rotor has a larger ID and doesn't require turning so much material off the hub. *IF* you have 996tt calipers, if might not be a bad way to go (but why not just use 993tt rotors - darn near same size, lighter (w/ aluminum hat), no hub machining, and they are trick 2 peice bits?)

I bought 996/Boxster S calipers, I misquoted the rotor size since Timmons said to refer to the 966TT kit on his website. The 966 kit is "similar". I like that it's a developed bolt-on kit even though Chris is willing to do the machining for my 996 calipers. I "could" get Boxster or 993 calipers with more mounting options if I had more time... Just curious. Can you run 15" 911 fuchs using Boxster non-S mono's front and back? Sorry, didn't mean to hijack but I figured that this may be the right audience to address this. I'd like to run even bigger brakes but don't want to part with my 15X6's just yet. Thanks
