Yes Miles,
It is true. You see I don't think anyone should have as much fun as I had with f/g. Once you start, there is no stopping the f/g need.
I now have a f/g dog. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Hey Paul - you make a great point about just doing the bolt on bits. I've done a fair bit of this sort of thing, and think I can imagine what's involved. What makes the entire fender deal so difficult? Can you comment on the process? Removing the fenders is a real bitch for sure.

One question - if you took the fenders off and replaced them with glass, wouldn't you pretty much need a cage for stiffness? You'd have removed a lot of very securely attached, triangulatin' metal. Esp for a 300lb driver and passenger!

You can drop good weight by changing all the bolt ons. I'll point out the obvious too.... take out the friggin sound insulation in the engine bay and behind the seats if they're still there. Also, consider the floorboard insulation (some work required).

Thanks for the reply guys.

My car is already on a diet, having had the Sound Pad isulation removed. I've not pulled the seats and back pad to get to the rear firewall, but its going to undergoing a cleaning off all excess weight also.

The cage issue is that I'm large enough that some places that have cage on other people's rides, is going to be occupied by sweet tender bits of Ed.

I think at this point, I have to complete my Mods to make it drivable, and then I'll be able to better assess what I can do with a cage.

I did have a cage question, why don't more people run a single stringer in the middle of the cabin from the windshield hoop, to the read targe hoop?

Because that ain't gonna help much in the body flex department
(the car will still be able to twist over it's longitudinal axis)

And in case of a roll-over you still have a pretty big chance of the corners of the windshield hoop collapsing (and most likely to collapse inward to the driver/passenger - not good)

If you're not going to race the car, you could build a custom cage with only a main hoop and some side protection

Another idea is to get a steeringwheel quick release. This will make getting in and out of the car a lot easier

cheers,

Jeroen
