Ran another wheel on the cnc. The program takes off 4lbs. average, and another program takes 1lb more (can be tweeked to take 2lbs.).

Pretty cool. Have about four flywheels laying around if you need any more.

do you have to balance it after you have removed the metal? If so how are you doing it?
Thanks, Mike |

You can take more out of it without weakening it. You can hit sub 9lbs.

what are you trying to achieve - I've read that taking substantial weight off FW causes driveability issues.

Are you interested in setting up to sell these to club members
I could certainly use a lighter flywheel to be able squeeze a little more out of my poor 1.9 engine I will be watching what progress occurrs here |

Watch adding a lightweight flywheel to such a small engine.. 914 gearing is tall and it doesn't take much rotational weight reduction to make a huge difference... 914 gearing is tall 1nd sub 2L engines don't make gobs of torque its pretty easy to lose drivability and kill your gas mileage with a light flywheel (on and off the throttle constantly)
I don't think about lightening the fly on a 914 of full weight with stock gearing until its a stroker making a minimum of 140 lb/ft of torque.. |

yeah I want to get more to play with... that was a members flywheel in those pictures. I know I can take more... have plans for trying but didn't want to experiment with someones flywheel (need to test and know first). Also just finished writing the program to cut the flywheel for 36 tooth fuel infection triger wheel.
Doh... forgot to say... the big reason I did it was to have those holes to let out dust and heat. |

Is that one mine? Looks great. It'll be a shame to hide such beautiful work. Hope it doesn't get lost again on the way back.

QUOTE Doh... forgot to say... the big reason I did it was to have those holes to let out dust and heat. Very good idea.. The clutch will love you! Taking some weight, but leaving a few pounds for guys with the smaller engines is just fine.... |
