We need more pics of these, as well as the 73-74 motors folks - please?
BUT, don't post them to this thread - put 'em in the nailed thread for engine bays. I've consolidated almost all of the nailed post areas - so let's keep them clean. |

I can take pictures of Betty's 74. It is not completely original, I have replaced all the hoses with ones that don't have the cloth braiding on the outside, but everything else is in the correct location.
And it has AC on it, so some of the components were moved to accommodate the AC install. I will take them tomorrow and post them. |

Here you go.. ask any questions you have about what you see. And remember, this car is no garage queen. Betty drives him to work every day, rain or shine. Clay - couple of questions. First, thanks for posting a 1.8 motor! If I'm correct (my memory is....uhh, I forgot) doesn't Betty's car have well over 200K miles on it? The battery holdown - did you grind a curve to fit the Optima? The 20 foot return line, coiled & ready to strike, why? That 914 still has plastic bushings on the trunk rollers! Thought I was the only one left with those - ever replace those? No lines from the heater blower to the interior - do you really live in such a warm place, or am I missing something? Pat |

Pat Oh, I almost forgot one important thing - Frodrick? Does that mean yours in pronounced "Eye-gor"? If so, "nice knockers"! and "what hump" First.. the car names.. Yes... It's Frodrick... and Mine is "Eye-Gor" and if you look, our BMW wants to "Roll, Roll, Roll in ze hay." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chairfall.gif) Her 914 has 300K on it and is still driven to work every day. The Battery hold down.. not ground down. I welded 2 washers to it so it would fit the Optima better. "20 Foot return line" - I have no idea which one you are talking about. Yes, the plastic bushings have been replaced... Remember, this car was resurrected after a disastrous engine fire. Heat exchangers... They are on the car, but none of the heater parts are hooked up. Betty says "I don't want to smell like oil smoke all day at work" so I don't hook it up. And she only drives 4.5 miles to work, and it only gets cold here for a few days a year. So, no heat. Oh, and if you didn't notice, the decel valve is gone. I capped the vacuum line to it, and used the other 2 lines for an AC idle up solenoid. It works great. |

Left side of fuel relay is a 'black' connector, right side is the square white molex connector?? Cause of fire..?? I like the 'nylon' rollers better!!!!!!less noise and vibration.. and smoother operation... MPG?? Who installed A/C?? What is your vin# and month of mfr....? Was the metal charcoal canister stock?? Later 74's had plastic and were in the rear...As yours...but yours is metal.. What was the original color of the manifold intake tubes?? How do you like your 1.8?? Thanx Rx |

Thanx Rx Coil is mounted in the factory location. I didn't move it. The AC compressor and it's mounts are a kit from ICEAC. It is a true bolt on kit to replace the York compressor that came with the dealer installed AC . On the double relay (fuel relay), the black connector is from the engine harness, the white one is from the fuel injection harness. Cause of fire - failure of the 30 year old plastic fuel lines. Replace them. The nylon ones are stock, and this is my wife's car. So I have to get her permission to change anything. We once had a fight about a sticker I put on her car. Now I clear EVERYTHING I do to that car with her first. MPG is somewhere around 25. We don't worry too much about it. It would be better if we put taller tires on the car. The AC was dealer installed. I just changed the compressor to a more efficient one and converted it to R134a. Vin is 4742917597 and it was manufactured in April of 74. The Charcoal canister was metal and mounted in that location before the engine fire, so I put it back. Some people say that it should be mounted to the battery tray, but I think it was moved to put in the AC at the dealer. I think the manifold intake tubes were a silver/gray color originally. |
