I guess I find it odd that they paid that much to restore this car and decided to "update" it with an aftermarket steering wheel and drivers seat.

And how about the vague desdcription...jeez

On the otherhand the ign switch is in the right place (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I think someone built the car the way the wanted, used it for a TT/DE car for a couple years and traded it at this place. They have decided to call it a restoration for some reason when really it was probably a racestoration. :cursor:

hmmm, interesting. it could be a very nice car, hard to tell with those pics. there was another signal orange resto for sale in NY recently with the same wheels and after market drivers seat. I *think* that one had a 2.7 in it. wonder if this is the car? they were asking $25k for that one I believe. geez, the car/color I am looking for and in the location where I am moving...

Check out the "estate sale " 914 Buy it Now at $15000 for a 76 with 125k miles. Starting bid is $9500. Seems a bit on the optimistic side.

Oooooo!! Strut tower braces! Yeah, those are really effective on a 914! After all, the rear trunk wall is at least four inches from the strut towers, so it can't possibly be controlling the lateral movement of those. And "bracing" the towers on the carpet, now that is a stroke of genius!

I wonder if they cut out the bulkhead in front of the gas tank just so they could install a front strut tower brace?

Dave,

I had wondered why I never see 914s with strut braces. I take from your sarcasm that they are not necessary becasue those lateral walls in the front and rear trunk perform the same function. Interesting.

I have a rear brace installed in an autocross prepared car done by the PO. Sure looks good back there. Had to be expensive too. Apparently the concensus is that it is of no value.

A quick and easy way to test if that extra bracing is needed (which I think is way overkill unless you need ballast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) is to remove it and attach a few strings with tape to the body in that area.

The bracing on top of the shocks makes no sense due to the trailing arm being located purely by the the pivot point. The shock gives it no strength and does not help "locate" the suspension as does the front struts do.

Of course this is all IMHO....once some testing is done to disprove my therory, I'll still not believe you, but I won't say so in public (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Does 9xxAuto sell these? It seems to be a product that fits them perfect....all claims with no proof.

I was even skeptical of the chassis stiffening kits that are available for the 914 until I read in Brian Long's book that this is how Porsche reinforced their 914 racers. (I have no idea about the effectiveness of the ebay car's bracing, though).

The strut tower braces are useless in a 914, unless you've gone crazy with the plasma cutter.

Like Mike says, the rear struts don't really locate the suspension laterally--and they have that bulkhead just in front of them, so they're plenty good in that direction anyway. And tying into the carpet? Yeah, carpet that isn't even glued down is real strong...

In the front, there isn't room for a brace. Why? Because a nice strong bulkhead is in the way! It attaches to the whole inner wheelhouse, so it has lots of nice load-bearing area. Not to mention being multiple-thickness and shaped structure at the top. I would be astonished if any of the available braces were actually stronger than what the stock 914 already has...

But gee, they sure do look kewl, huh?

What kind of tach is that? Almost looks like a boost gauge in the bottom center of the tach. I supersized the inteior shot and still could not tell. Ferg. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

It looks like that bad-ass tach that Wayne at PP used to make. I think it was Wayne. It's a turbo tach with probably oil pressure in the bottom.

hmm I sent them an email this morning asking some legitimate questions, something tells me they won't reply. guess I shouldn't have asked who did the $50k resto and if there were receipts.

Not Wayne. I think it was Rich Johnson who got one of the VDO shops (like Palo Alto Speedo) to do that conversion on a 930 tach.
