We were going over Erik Madsen's Hewland setup and I was thinking about ONE other way that I had seen the 915 shifter mid engine (before WEVO)

Thought I would share this. I know the owner of the car (many of you will recognize it)

I'm going to show two different setups in this thread (if not 3)

The last shot above is a pic of the Hewland Erik runs in his SCCA production car. This pic clearly shows how his linkage is connected.

The shots of the Yellow 914:

he has to change the motion at least one time.. so he moved the shift rod on the shifter from the typical "bottom" setup to the middle setup.

Early 914's change motion at the firewall with a similar link at the firewall.

Most open wheeled cars change the motion at the shifter like he did in the pics above.

Brad, is the top car Ted Hammer's car? He did alot of developement work on his "frankenshifter" and then got together with Hayden to make the wevo unit.

I instructed Ted at Laguna years ago after he just got the car finished...

Yes it is. Add an arrow on the bumper pointing to it and you are all set!

I am guessing the bottom one is Blakewell's car? Does he even get out to your area? I know he doesn't run much anymore because of the cost.

That is him!!

I always forget Dave's last name for some reason. Great guy! Super nice. I think he lives in Campbell now.

I know he built the dyno room that S-Car-Go uses back a few years ago.

How much for a Hewland Brad? I know they are great transmissions, but what are the major benefits?

Randal,

Erik and I discussed decent used complete boxes for around $3500

It would require all custom clutch setup (clutch arm) not actual clutch.

Custom shift linkage

Custom mounts

Custom bellhousing adapter..

Benefits:

The ability to upshift full throttle with no clutch (if you want) the tranny's are LOUD with straight cut gears.

Gearsets are readily available in literally 100's of ratios for all gears.

The ability to change gearsets quickly.

Tons and tons of good support (Hewland is HUGE)
