Been studying the use of electric motors and wondered if it has been done successful in a 914?

The "go to" guy is Otmar. He builds 90% of the controllers for Stanford's electric car research programs and supplies most of the electric drag racers with 3+4 stage programmable liquid cooled controlllers. Great guy!

Tell him Brad and the 914Club sent you to him. His products are TOP notch!!

Shannon is great resource also.. he just isnt "in" the electric car industry.

I haven't converted one but hope to in the future. I'm in restoration mode now and doing the research. Let me know if you'd like to compare notes.

Many years ago the senior engineering class at Cal-State University, Long Beach did a 914 conversion. There is probably a contact in the engineering dept that can hook you up with the projects documentation.

Thank you to all for your info. I will continue my research, I feel that the 914 platform is a perfect conversion canidate. I will be posting my progress here as I see that I can offer my experience to allow others to build a better EV.

Nice! I bought my 914 a year ago with the intention of a EV swap, still want to do it, but for now 30 mpg and interior+suspension restoration are in progress. The initial cost of the controllers and batteries is still very large, and somewhat frustrating that the best technology is uber-expensive (i.e. polymer batteries). I really want a AC with more torque or DC with regen braking...but am about $5k short to get started.

Otmar is THE MAN. Contact him through Zilla controllers. Having a 914 is a good "in" with him. He was very helpful, but also a respected professional in the EV field, and had to keep our communications short because I am still in "tire kickin" mode and don't have the $$$ to put my ideas in motion. Good luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
