I took my old tin off the motor once it was down and noticed the white 1" stamped number on the tin right by the alternator access port. The numbers are about 1" high and mine say "925". The tin has been mangled by a PO, so I got my hands on another piece from a local shop, it says "623" in the exact same place...

Do they mean anything...do they have any significance...

I've seen the numbers, but have never heard an explanation.
Take some photos and post them if you can.
We can try to match the number with engine serial numbers and see what we get.

Oh great! Now I'll never get to call my car "numbers matching". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif)

What, didn't you drive directly from the dealers lot into hermetic storage? It is all YOUR fault. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)
