Ok, tried to put my MoMo steering adapter on this weekend and it seems to lack about 1/18 inch to provide contact with the steering column. I have that gap and now my horn doesn't seem to work. Do I remove the c clip on the column to allow further travel? Any one had similiar experiences?

Hi Mike,

What year car?? Please give the info on the sticker. Porsche changed columns in late 72 or so. This could effect which adapter you need.

I specified to the company, its a 73..so I guess I better check and make sure its not for a 72 or earlier!!

It could be an early early (Sept. 72) that sold as a 73 in 73. It *could* have the early column.

I recently installed a momo adapter in my '74, and have a gap as well. I've read elsewhere that this is normal. I included a (bad) pic below of mine, is this the gap you're talking about? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

If you have a 1/2" gap or so, you probably have a 911 hub.

Lavanut, yours looks correct.

Brad, isn't the change in Hubs for 70 & 71 only - 72 + use the same, no?

which ever column doesnt have the wiper switch.. (that is early..LOL)

I forgot which year they moved the wiper switch.

Been a LONG time since I have owned a early non 9146 car..

On the dash, pushed it to get washer fluid flowing if I remember right. When they broke, the washer fluid will leak on your leg.

mine too...

if you are really anal... you can move the column surround forward a bit....


pull the column switches, pull the big allan bolt holding the column surround in...

pull the lower dash...

now tap the back of the column shroud from underneath (its why you removed the lower dash) tap it with a block of wood and a hammer until you pick up that 1/8" you would like (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ok, so the small gap isn't of any concern, but naturally the fact that your horn doesn't work is. The two aren't realted though.

I had just a single wire that I removed from the stock wheel that I fed through the hub adapter, and clipped to the back of the Momo horn button. The horn button has a brass-looking contact on the back, when I installed the button in the adapter I made sure to put that side in first, so that the metal contact was pressed/wedged firmly up against the hub adapter. Worked with no issues on the first try.

My hub adapter came with no instructions at all, just a piece of paper that said, "WARNING! READ INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE INSTALLING"...and nothing else. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

I took a bunch of pics during my install, let me know if there's something you're not clear on..I'll post pics if I think it'll help.
