They were an aftermarket and sometimes dealer installed accessory from a company called Amco. They are sometimes refererred to as overriders.
They are often available on e-bay... even some new old stock ones! |

They make me think fondly of my 356 and my old VWs.
I like that color, too. I know not everyone likes bright green but it's one of my favorite colors for the 914. |
