I thought that I would start GTL up again and try and finish up the cup races. And I still suck, I can't drive the Vette with a damn in Cup C.

Any how, I got my 914 out, and just had a really fun little 5 lap race at monza. 35 opponents from all classes. Ended up fighting another 914 and a CSL. The other 914 spun, and the CSL and I traded 1&2 for most of the race before I finally broke away in the last lap for the win.

Its a fun game, I wish I was not so stuck on the cup races.
Anyway, just thought I'd post about it. I forgot how much fun, and engrossing, this game is. Now I want to go make some more skins. Its neat seeing Sean's skins and mine racing against each other.

Im doing the same... Although my 914 setup SUCKS! I had a vette setup that worked awesome!! but then I just couldnt get it working today! then.. hehehe.. I turned my total lock all the way up and started to learn how to drift in the vette!!!!! hehehehehe Not the fastest way, but heck... its pretty dang cool when you can survive some nasty corners!

Im seeing a TON more tracks now.. I just have to download them.. bah

I was racing last night with some of the guys from the Subaru board. Settings were professional with start off the red/green light.

4 person race, one guy jumped early, and suckered me and the other guy. The guy that did not get the stop/go spun on turn 1, but still won the race. Sucks.

This board should start doing online racing again.

I've had the demo for a while but never pulled the trigger to order the full version. So I had an amazon card sitting around collecting dust...... so I have my copy on the way along with a MOMO wheel.

Let's get some race on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif)

The subaru guys are racing on Tuesdays from 9 to 10:30 or so EST. Let me know if you want in. It not a league, just for fun. Last tuesday we ran several 10 lap Mini Cooper races through a couple tracks. Next tuesday we are talking about doing Alpha/Cortina races. No 914 stuff yet, but that might come.

We run a privet server via IP, so I'll need permission to get that to you. But I bet anyone here interested in racing would be welcome. All we ask is that you have your online code tested and such. Getting online with GTL can be a bit of a pain, as many of the US games did not ship with the proper net code. Try it, and yif you don't have it you have to contact Simbin and tell thatm you need one. It takes several days for them to respond.

Tuesday we had 6 people racing. 2 skilled guys, 2 in the middle of skill, and 2 noobs. I was one of the middle guys. In the end, though, the winner is the guy that crashes out the least and also avoids the stop/go penalty.

We are all using XFire for voice chatting during the race. My username for XFire is vacca914rabite.

Being as the GTL code can be buggy, we may also try RACE through the Steam network. But we all like the cars in GTL, so we want to play that some more.

Sounds cool. Disk and wheel should arrive on Monday, but have cubscouts with my oldest on Monday evening, so probably won't get time to fire everything up until tuesday night. I was getting the feel of the demo just using the keyboard, so it'll be interesting to try with a wheel that is supposed to be halfway decent.

The difference between the wheel and the keybaord is night and day.

Do you know the code to give you all the cars?

Check out the forums at nogrip racing for lots of tips on how to get faster. its also where you can find tons of add on tracks and cars. http://www.nogripracing.com/

If you can, try and get things sorted before the start of the race tuesday, which may be impossible if Simbin did nto include your online code (different from your starforce code, many of the US games did not ship with it by mistake).

I just ordered another copy of GTL (mine is in Indy) and a copy of GTR 2. I expect them tomorrow at the hotel. I just bought an Xbox360 Wireless Receiver for Windows. Hopefully I'll be able to use it for GTL.

Once I find enough tracks and cars, etc...I'll be online again. Probably only be able to play late at night and/or Monday/Tuesday nights.

woohoo!

Actually, the tuesday night race group decided, after much debate, to move away from GTL. The net code is just too buggy. W had ~9 people interestd in raceing, of that, 6 would show on any given night. Of those 6, one person would always be denied connection. The person denied was seemingly random.

We tried playing though the "Lobby" but there is an unfixed bug which causes Lobby games to crash. That got old really quick. We did several weeks of IP races; but had the random failure to connect problems. We tried all reinstalling the game and ONLY running the stock cars and tracks. No dice. This past tuesday, 2 players could not connect, and we chose to bag GTL for race night. We got RACE over steam as a substitute.

As a driving sim, it is totally soul-less. But at least people can connect reliably. Pretty much totally need to relearn how to drive to drive in Race.

Mike is here and wants to play. Sean may play if he has time. I'll play.

I'd suggest getting XFire for chat while we are racing. Makes thing more fun.

If you buy GTR2 right now it comes with GTL but no manual. I'm new to this so some things are confusing. Does anyone have a manual, lol.

I just bought a G25 wheel, it is really nice (not in photo)

We were using a dedicated server. The Lobby had been very unstable when we were racing, and there were posts about it showing up in the various fourms. It would randomly drop connections, causing all the racers to need to restart the race. Maybe that has been fixed? But even running a server via direct IP, every week there would be one or two people that could not connect. Who could not connect would vary depending on who ran the server.

Even Race started having similar connection problems. The group decided to ditch Simbin all together and started using rFactor. I got busy as spring rolled around, and was totally disheartened by the whole thing (including spending ~$110 on sims that I could not use as advertised) that after I bought and configured rFactor, I lost interest in trying to join the races.

If someone here wanted to restart the GTL server, I would be happy to race online here. As it is, I have to get my sim fix using GTL against the computer AI.
