never been, but shannon has. in fact, she's got family down there. so, we will be taken care of. we got a cottage on the beach just north of auckland. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif) got a rental car too. i have been busy trying to visualize driving on the wrong side of the road. that's going to be an adventure all in itself! i've done it in england once and it was, uhm, ehr, scary ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) anyways, do we have any members down there? if so, anyone up for brunch/lunch/dinner/beers? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif) about time too, last real vacation was in '99 ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif) Andy |

We're going to New Zealand for the first time in a year. We already have reservations for next Feb. My wife knows if she doesn't plan ahead I'll come up with an excuse why I can't go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Post pics!

I haven't been to the north island, but I spent 2 weeks driving around the south island. The people were really friendly and laid back. The driving on south island was a blast, great roads, great scenery, no traffic. We drove 2-5hrs everyday and loved every minute. You'll have a great time.
If you can, go to the Abel Tasman national park and go sea kayaking: http://www.abeltasman.co.nz/ -Justin |

got a rental car too. i have been busy trying to visualize driving on the wrong side of the road. that's going to be an adventure all in itself! that's absolutely no problem - when I was in Ireland for about 2 weeks that was easy going (in general) my only problem was that when I wanted to open the door, I had the parking break in my hand (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) about time too, last real vacation was in '99 ... same for me ... that was Ireland have a good time! Andy you will have a blast. The roads are super and the place is beautiful everywhere. I did it in a motorhome so we could cover a lot of ground. I did not get to the south Island though. It is a great country and if I were to choose another place to live it would be New Zealand.

Auckland is about a 3 hour flight from here across the ditch. A must do if you can - the Super 14 rugby series started last weekend. Don't know how long you are going to be there but there are two possibilities:
Saturday 17 February Wellington Hurricanes v Auckland Blues Wellington 19:35 Saturday 24 February Auckland Blues v Queensland Reds Auckland 19:35 Ask any of the locals they will set you straight and prob find you some tickets. |
