Surprisingly solid for being 50 years old.....was advertised as a 59 but the VIN and engine show a 58 model that was sold in 59....build date in 57. Hey, In response to your CW question on the Registry.. The reflectors are not stock, that is where the overrider bar supports go in and bolt to the frame. Look inside, you will see the mounting bolt hole (s) for the bar. It was popular to remove them, but putting them back has become the latest fad, only if they were stock to begin with...and yours are stock. Rich |

Leaded edges....That's the rumor....haven't started grinding on the doors as yet. The bottoms seem to be the worst.....the skin on the passenger side looks to be seperating from the door frame.
I contacted a 356 restoration friend and he says that the bottom five inches is a common replacement piece. So, gonna keep looking for cancer and grinding.....finally got all the brake parts and will start on that phase. Just need to get motivated. |

if you take a look (and you will) at how that fender traps dirt/water, you will see why they ALL rust there.
To do it right. The door stays on the car, do not remove, or re-hang it after you re-skin the bottom. So, door is first. Then you get the gap on the BOTTOM of the door correct by adjusting the hinges. That is all you can do with the hinges. From there, you weld in the front and rear sections of the fenders (front fender rear, rear fender front) and match the door gaps as best you can by cutting/grinding the replacement piece, again...with the door in place. All the parts are available at RD, or Zims. grind away on the fender right behind the door. Same idea, dirt/water get in there. There is alot of lead around the doors also...so wear a mask. I will still buy it if you get frustrated. Rich |

I wanna at least get it on the road first....see how it drives. Then see what the paint is gonna cost me. That will be decision time.

Mike,
From what I have heard, everything was junked back in the 70's and early 80's so they are shopping (the Italians) for project cars to ship back home. Its where the market is for projects right now, and its where more than a few I have touched have gone. Rich |
