OK the car is running a lil' rich it run GOOD but off the
line if I don't feather the clutch it sputers No popping and black sute on the tail pipes. I have dual 44 IDF webers the idle jets are 50mm I'm thinking of down sizing to either 47mm or 45mm am I going to have to make other adjustment along with changing the jets?? Thanks, jbart |

44's on a 1.7 Holy crap that is 3 times the size you need.
a 1.7L should run on 36 solex. Just to put it in perspective my hopped up 2.0L car with .500 lift 300 duration cam and Tangerine header runs well with 40 IDF's 53 idles 32mm vents. I do have a problem with low speed under 2500 RPM as the velocity is pretty slow. Above 3500 it's buck wild. So I suspect your car runs rich on idle jets for the same reason. Idle jets can be accurately sized by number of turns of the idle mixture screw. aim for 1 1/2 turns off the bottom. I have a wide band A/F meter and I can see the carb transition through all the different circuits. idle screws 14:1 progression ports 11:1 (because of low velocity) main jets 13.5:1 all the way to 6250 RPM. |

like we talked about, i think the smallest venturi/choke you can get for them is a 32mm, and you need no bigger than a 28 i would guess.
your mains were a 135, and your air correctors were a 175. see if you can swap someone for a set of 40's.... |
