Looking for ideas of something different to cover the dash face and door panels with besides basketweave.
Plain vinyl? Different vinyl, carbon fiber, ....???? Got pics? Post them here? |

I like the look of synthesisdv's door panels
(IMG:http://www.synthesisdv.com/vg/comp-03.jpg) I am thinking this might look good with the regular door top piece in black vinyl. I good dupe these panels on black high density foam board with the mountin clips. I'd have to drill for the window crank and then determine a way to open the door. Maybe a pull strap or maybe the RS America door pulls??? |

Car is/will be yellow...
Maybe this type of door pull (RS America) with yellow pull (IMG:http://i19.ebayimg.com/03/i/00/95/b7/36_1.JPG) |

i like the simplicity of the RS door, but not the strap to open, makes it look cheap IMO.

I thought about doing an RS America-type panel for a 914 too.
You could do the door pull strap with a modded or fabricated linkage rod and a pivot out of a '74 or later 911. Only thing is you couldn't lock it from inside (well, unless you could make a pull strap push) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Go with RS panels Karl, that is my plan, so the seats will fit.

I have used PVC tube split in half for the top piece on the door. Covered with vinyl or painted or ??, it holds up better than the factory original.
Sorry no pics. CCLINCAMP914 |

thanks karl,
I actually have a set of the RS America straps and grommets. Haven't had the chance to install them yet though. The panel is easy to make because it is totally flat. I cut a sheet of clear rigid plastic first to make a template. Then you just need a sheet of glass a little bigger than the panel to layup the carbon fiber on. I only used one layer of 5oz carbon twill and it is not very rigid. When I make some other parts, will double up on cloth or mayber use a sandwich of s-glass or regular fiberglass to save $$. Have fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) dr |

Aaron,
Early 911s & 912s had those. They are very cool and pricey. I've been looking for a wood one and can't find one. |

Hmm.. what about this idea?
Black perlon carpet on the dash face (will give it a GT-style feel!) Black perlon carpet on the lower door panel Black Vinyl on the strip along the top. GT/RS style door pulls and pull straps (like in Scott's pictures)? |

I think those RS America style door panels are boring. They are so simple that a child can do a pair. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)
Look what I have done. I took these pics yesterday. They are from very first test fit. So, the door panel in the pics is not yet ready. I am not saying you should do the same. But, if I can do something like this and this was the first time I sat behind a sewing machine, I am sure you can find a profesional auto upholstery guy there who can do what ever you want. Your car will be really really nice and you have invested so much time and ca$$h in it, that I hope you will end up something more creative. I hope I could help you better, but I can send only one link. It is to some RodDoor company. I dont know anything about them, but the pics in the site looks interesting. Look yourself http://www.roddoors.com/Default.htm Keep up good work and posting pics about the progress (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wavey.gif) Attached image(s) |

Did you fabricate those carbon fiber door pockets yourself? I really like the look of those...the stock door pockets on my 912 run about $800 for a decent set.
