They're a lot of fun. My Dad had a 2000 & I had a 1600 (this was back in the 70's, so it's been a while). I drove the heck out of mine until I rolled it (long story). I don't remember having a lot of problems.

Ferg (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Ahhh, the Bluebird or Fairlady or whatever the hell you want to call it .... 1500 .... cast iron head, pushrod, drum brakes on all corners, .... The first of the Japanese MGBs. Drove like a truck, handled like a worn out Cadilliac. Slower than frozen turds. Comfortable when compared to the sports cars of the era ..... one year only as I remember. 1600 Roadster .... aluminum head ..... 93 HP .... front discs, rear drums. Best of the best (money) is the '67 split guage. Raced two of these for 15 years. Still handled like a worn out Caddy without some suspension work. Some parts interchange with an MGB. Again, comfortable for it's era. 2000 Roadster .... Solex version blazingly fast while it was out of the shop (spent most of it's time in the shop). Still not a great handling car. Modified race version was easy to get 175 HP. Was killed by the 240Z It's a Datsun .... not a Nissan (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) |

i bought a red 67' 1600 when i got out of the army that had 37k on it and i drove the life out of it. 96hp, 103fpt in a touch over 2000 lb car. the dash on the 67 was swell looking. a stock 1600 had no problem keeping up with a 356, 4 cly triumph/mgb/tr4, or a 914. great cars but they rust ugly. the hot ticket in these cars is the SR(L)311 package, 150hp/138fpt.

Ferg, could it be you just like the name, Fairlady. I have a Miata you can buy, silly boy.
Old school 510s were the kickass car in its day. Now they are stuffing rotaries and the Maxima motors in them. Myself and a couple of other 510 owners, started the 510 Owners club here in Oregon, many many years ago. I liked the simplicity of the L series motors. Throw on a couple of SU's or Webers, hook up a 5 speed, and you had a fun and fast little car. CCLIN510NATION |

Had a buddy who had a 2000 5 speed when I lived in the city in the early 70s, he scared the living shit out of me....fast but NO handling and he wasn't the best driver I ever rode with....full pucker...kind of a cool looking roadster though..
