My VIN is 4752900585
and the Engine is GC000206

1975 2.0

08/74 manufacture date

Does anyone out there have data to know if the two were matched at the factory or has the engine been swapped out somewhere in the last 95,000 miles ???

It's had some curious work done on the engine and 000206 makes me think it was the 206th engine produced for the Smog program in the U.S.

There is no way (that I know of) to match up an exact engine with a specific chassis. They may have those records in Germany? Here is the best I have to offer. You can determine if you have an engine from the proper range to go with a particular year and model by VIN number.

There is one way to match a specific engine with a specific chassis. Write to PCNA (Porsche Cars North America) and get a "Certificate of Authenticity". The problem is that it costs--a lot. (Just over $100, I think??)

Actually, the other problem is that it isn't always completely accurate. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) They have a collection of index cards or some such, with the info hand-written on them. Then they type that into a computer and print out your shiny certificate. Those steps all can introduce errors... But it's as good as you'll get.
