Hi all..
Sorry I have disappeared for a while..
I am bizy on my 75 1.8 resto...
Had an engine fire..(A definite challenge)!!
Which brings me to this topic...
I am getting parts from a couple with a rust bucket 75 1.8..
Their Build date is 10/74 Vin #1728
Mine VIN is 2277 10/74...They made 11368 cars 2.0 and 1.8 in 75 ..
Works out to be 947 cars a month or so..
Both of our cars were real close # wise..
Actually seems their car should have been 9th month of 74..
By crunching the #'s..
If it was 10th month..
Theirs would have to be one of the first off of the line..
Oh and their EC Block #039166 is good for 75 build too!!
So here is my dilemma..
The parts they sent are the 74 '6' pin harness injection system
and brain for a 74..
75 had the 7 pin and a different brain to go with that..
Plus a host of other things to go along with the 75 model 1.8..
Soooo does any one else have a early 75 1.8 to shed light on this..
As to when they (Porsche) changed over to the 7 pin system??

Pat.. Jeff really doesn't do L-Jet.

That being said, I can answer that question. Porsche/VW used up the leftover parts from the previous years production before switching to the newer ones. So it is possible to have a 74 L-jet system on a 75 model year car. I have seen a 73 2.0 that had a tail shifter in it, and it came from the factory that way. I have also seen a 73 with early window mechanisms and no door beams.



There is not much functional differences between the 2 systems. If you really want to be absolutely correct, I have 7 pin air flow meters, harnesses, and brains. I will swap straight up for the 6 pin stuff.

Oooh! A new lesson learned!

Someone posted something directed at me last week, indicating that they thought I knwe everything about 914's (who does). My response was that I know a lot about a little & little about a lot. And, that is why I call upon the uber-experts from this group. if I don't know, I'll say so & route them to someone who does. If I'm incorrect with that, someone will pick up on it.

That's why I hang around here! The information value is invaluable. People are kinda cool too!

Thanks Clay! Figured Bowlsby knew everything about everything related to FI. He really isn't God?

I have corresponded with the fellow on the Dennis Deeds 914 list that sold you the parts. I also think that it was just a matter of using up the parts.

Are there part numbers on the 6 pin and 7 pin parts? If so I may be able to give a more definitive answer.

Two guys who really know FI are Brad Anders and Ray Greenwood. Bleyseng is pretty good at it also.

I did throw an email to George At A.A....
Here is his answer...
"Hi Rex long time no hear!
All 75 models that we have seen over the years from new had 7 pin
air
flow meter connectors. However due to the lack of parts many dealers
when experiencing fuel injection problems retro fitted 74 harness and
air flow meter on the cars. The control unit would interchange."
