The other day while (luckily) pulling into a parking lot in my '73 914-4 I heard a metallic sound, the car dropped to the ground & skidded to a stop. When I got out of the car to see what had happened I saw that the front left tire was at an angle & the front fender was damaged and resting on the tire. When I looked closer I could see that the A-Arm had cracked around the ball joint and had scrapped along the parking lot for a few feet. I had the car towed home. Now I want to repair my car with the best parts available. I would appreciate any & (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) all suggestions.
Thanks, Gary |

You know I think I've heard of this happening before...Welcome new member, we'll treat you nice and help you out.
I think your PP post and replies were pretty good. What do you want to know that wasn't addressed in the PP replies? |

Does anybody have first hand knowledge of the quality of the PP complete A-Arm replacement. The PP catalog states that it comes with new factory bushings. What other hardware should I replace upon re-assembly? Nuts, washers, etc... should I replace both L & R sides? I don't want this to happen again.
Thanks, Gary |

PP as in Pelican Parts, or Performance Products. Either way the quality is probably tghe same. The items are probably from the same manufacture. If your old one lasted 30 years, this one will prolly last 30 as well

Brand new A-arms would be nice...heck, you got 20 someodd years of use from the original units (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Are they NOS or rebuilt units? I'd replace both sides for a little piece of mind. Replacing all of the hardware with brand new items would also be nice, but is it available? Is it in your budget? I have not heard of the hardware failing, but it could happen. One would think that lug bolt failure would be common since these are stressed the most and touched the most of any of the regular bolts on the car. I have not heard of these bolts failing. Depending on the price of new units, I'd go with new unless too costly, the next best step would be to find a set of used A-arms and strip them down and inspect them. One could also add re-enforcment to the A-arms for a little extra comfort. Mike |

Just curious:
What is the new cost ?? I thought they where higher than a Giraffes butt. Replace both sides. The other one is waiting to break if this one failed. I wonder if these failures are do to accidents that may have happened to the cars way back. B |
