I need a recommendation for a 914 mechanic in the Washington, DC, suburban Virginia/suburban Maryland area. The car is a 1974 1.8 L. The body is in great shape, but the car has been sitting for a while and won't turn over. I'm not looking for an autocross mechanic, but someone who can go over it and give me an estimate of how much it would take to get my car back to daily driver status. The closer to downtown Washington, DC the better, as the car will have to be towed I'm afraid. Any recommendations? My e-mail is benwinery@yahoo.com

Carl Cordell at Rennsport, at Edsell Rd. and 395, is an old-fashioned mechanic. Put in his time at P-dealerships decades ago, is a one-man shop. Wrenching, not glitz. 703-750-0928 (I'm a customer/client, not Carl)
