just wondering how people deal with rust in the tunnel? My car was one of the worst cases. Rear window leak and it sat for a long time. The tunnel and in between the firewalls must have had had a lot of standing water in them. My solution was drastic. I replaced both firewalls, front and rear pan, and I also replaced all the tubes in the tunnel. I am still worried about the inside of the longs. The outsides are fine. Inside? It would be nice if there was a tunnel floor patch. I suppose It could have been cut out / repaired and welded back in place. The accelerator tube is very close to the bottom. I cut into it in several places removing the floor pan. If you are considering this, be careful. |

These pictures are great and the pictures posted on this site have helped me a great deal viewing the under skin of the car. I am dealing with rust issues and continue to find more as I remove parts and coverings. I was surprised to see so many rust areas under the original floor pan tar, to the point of replacement of the rears. I also found a great deal of rust at the divers side firewall so your pictures helped me understand whats in the tunnel and what I am dealing with if I have to replace the lower firewall. The PO had done a good job of covering up the rust damage with fiberglass and paint, I'm very disapointed finding so many rust areas he covered you reall could not tell at first sight. I am questioning weather to go any further with the project to the point of finding a project car. I have viewed the restoration pictures on the AA site which I found very informative and George at AA has helped me a great deal with any questions I had. I have bought several repair panels and parts to get the car in shape, but continue to find surprises. Sorry just frustrated and venting. I really love these cars and looking at my car from the outside it will turn your head But……… It may be better and less expensive to find a good roller. Mike P.S tanks again for the pic |

I wanted a project but not really this much of a project. I decided that once I started it, I would finish it. Looking back, it hasn't been that bad. It has been modest amount of money and a lot of labor. It is really coming along fine. Hopefully it will be done this Summer. All welding is done. Just some fender repairs and paint need to be done. |

Very cool. Thanks. That really helps one see what's going on in there, especially when running new fuel lines.

If I use a rust inhibitor spray and spray it as much as I can in the tunnel, will I damage anything inside the tunnel? (i.e. fuel lines?) What if i just pour POR-15 and just let it spread as far as it can go? any thoughts? |
