Download and run Spybot seach and destroy and clean all the spam/spyware off of your PC

http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10122137...page&tag=button

There are some pretty nasty ones that come with Kazaa and other internet downloaders.

I don't have any popups here.

Then get a pop-up stopper software installed on your PC to help eliminate/reduce annoying popups.

I run Panicware's Pop-up Stopper Free Edition Works great and it's free!

redshift....what did you mean by you have just been porked???

I actually got that web page when I rebooted...what program is that???

I have two very good programs (when I bother to run them)
"Ads be gone" is free and excellent.
I have a great popup stopper from panicware that is also free and provides pretty good protection...

Just found three programs running....I HATE these people....

the one that was killing me was called commonname
They actually made me go to the web site and read a whole page of their ad for this POS software before I could uninstall it with a keycode...
that really makes me want to buy it...

It just makes me want to re-establish my anonymous web site system and go bury their server for a few hours........

I find that kind of in your face waste of my time so anti consumer,,,,they actually think I might buy that software after they just jammed it in my face and wasted a half hour to figure that out.....
I dont think so....

I meant that you had done something, or just visited a crappy site that loaded a program to make it look like sites you were using were popping up ads.

This kind of thing is grounds for killing, as far as I am concerned.

I hate any unsolicited actions/correspondence, this is my machine, not the coddamned mall.

You probably have something called CommonName on your computer. It usually manifests itself when you reboot.

It's this real pain in the ass Spyware program.

Go to Control Panel, and Add/Remove programs. If you see CommonName there, then choose to Remove/Uninstall it. It will take you to their website and you have to enter this littel code you see on the screen, then it will take you to the Uninstaller ActiveX removal program.

SpyBot Seach and Destroy will also remove it.

did that with commonname....
It just kills me that some idiot marketing guy really thinks that this method will make me buy that POS software....really, If I could only see the reports tracking this bad and aggressive advertising, that person would be fired in a heartbeat...
I bet its even good software, but I will never know.

I kill what I can through windows, but the good ones require you boot from a diskette and kill them off manually....

What a stupid planet we live on....

Take a good media and make it a billboard......why????????????????????????

Mac OS X

yeah, which isn't even from apple, based on FREE (read: open source) software and to make matters worse, hacked together by a bunch of bored college students with big glasses and pimples ...

how is that supposed to make me feel better? huh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I have to admit, I am running OS X Panther on mine in the house and it never gets any popups. Ever. I got the computer for free, G3 900 with all the software for free as well. Wish I could say the same about my Intel system. Trouble with the Mac is, the video conferencing software will only let me connect and video chat with another Mac, What the hell good is that? All my friends and family have clones. So the Mac world is not all that perfect.

So the Mac world is not all that perfect.

the first virus i ever had on a computer was in the early 80s on my C64. the second was in the later 80s on my MAC. then came the 90s and the rest is history.

the lack of viruses and spyware for the MAC is not due to it's (preceived) "Superiority" over PCs but rather due to the lack of interest in the Macintosh Platform by the kids who write most of todays viruses ...
