so now it starts.
the timing is right(27-28BTDC at 3500rpm) the fuel pressure is right 30-32ish. the idle mixture is all the way lean. what we did was start it. time it set FP and then it was idling way way too low 400 or so. at the point it was hot oil temps of about 180-190 i came in for a break and to regroup to decide what i would do to tackle the low idle problem. i go back out. remove the FP gauge. and start it. it revs to 5K and settles at 4200. i then check all vaccume lines(all good). then try again. same deal as before. i then turn the screw on the FP regulator CCW(lower pressure right?). then try again. same thing. no effect. now im here. any ideas? i am a 2056 with a tuned MPS for the RAT 9550 8.5:1 compression. nothing too special. please please help! this is about 15 months of work. and i hope to have it running for my girlfriend's graduation on saturday. please help me run down this problem!! -jim |

classic vac. leak symptoms, sounds like it might be heat related.
check the AAR, make sure it closes. Check the PCV connection Check the air intake runner/head junction these will leak with the thin gasket on the phenolic block.do not over tighten the air runner bolts, the torque is 4.6lbs, ask me how I know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) Check the TB. Hell!! check everything at least twice you 'd be suprised at what you can miss when frustration sets in get a can of carb cleaner and spray on the juctions of all vac fittings. It's flammable be careful Keith |

I know I accidentally left a vacuum hose off and it idled at about 4000 like you talk about, if not I guess you're in the same boat as me with my 914... screwed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Niether one of you guy's are screwed! take a deep breath and pay close attention to everything on the motor 914's are an auto in it's simplest form. If you have gotten this far with a restore, don't throw your hands up and say your screwed, your not. What you are is frustrated, understandable. What checks have you done since yesterday? At what engine temps? Let's start there first before we get into the AAR (auxiliary air valve) |
