These people are good. Although, poor spelling is a dead giveaway. But really, this is good. It even opens up a real ebay page when you click on it.
------------------------------------------ Dear valued eBay member, It has come to our attention that your eBay billing information records are out of date . This requiers you to update your billing information with no delay in order to avoid any future problems with eBay's online service. Please click here to update your billing records. Once you have updated your account records, your eBay session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. However failure to update may result in cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future billing problems. Thank you for your time! Marry Kimmel, eBay Billing Department team. Yes, but when you signed up for the Nigerian check fraud scam, you left the '[x] Yes! I want to be the victim of other fraudulent activities' checked.
You have to be on your toes. M |

The page may look real, but read the address at the top. I would bet it doesnt even have ebay in it. That is how they get your username and password to pull off other scams. Like trying to sell 50" Plasma screens for $2000.00. All you have to do is send them the money through Western Union and they will ship it right off to you from Spain or Italy or someplace like that. Once you do it, they have your money and you have no recourse what so ever. Never use Western union to send money to someone you do not know. It is not recoverable.

I got one of those messages (the "real" ebay called it a "spoof" message) and even clicked on the link to see what it said. It asked me to fill in the blanks about my bank and credit card accounts, including my pin number and Social Security Number...yeah, right! Trip me if I run!

You have to be extremely careful. Just looking at a URL in the address bar is no indication that you are on the proper site.
A security flaw in many web browsers has been discovered and is being exploited by a few criminals. They can explot the vulnerability to overlay Web addresses with any URL name they wish in the address and status bars of the browser. By obscuring the fake Web address in this way, the scammers can effectively trick e-mail recipients into thinking they're visiting a legitimate web site, rather than a virtual facade erected to capture user security details. The flaw has been confirmed in IE 6.0 and possibly older versions. Outlook Express 6.0 and Mozilla Firebird 0.7 are also thought to be at risk. Check this out to see how it works. QUOTE(seanery @ Dec 13 2003, 09:25 AM) damn paul! how do I fix that? Well, Microsoft has decided that their Monthly Security Update will not be released this month. (What happened to Balmer saying, "Security is the top priority"?) For the official Microsoft fix, you'll have to wait until sometime in January. In the meantime, the most suggested solutions are to either: Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a proxy server or firewall with URL filtering capabilities. or Use a browser that is not vulnerable. |

if you give you social security # to anyone you're crazy. when sam's club was open in tacoma they wanted mine for membership (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) . i told the guy no way, they didn't need it. he assured me it would be safe and they "used it for filling puposes only". nearly had a dust up in the store. i got heated and told the cust service guy and the manager to fuck off and jeanne started tugging on my sleeve. i'm pretty impolite at times. oh, i didn't join.
