Can anyone please explain the Karmann Karosserie numbering system on the aluminium plates in the left door jam ?
I would love to know what this means. Particularly would like to know what year/month my chassis was made. I recall finding a post about these numbers in the past but I've been searching for hours and can't find it. My number is 2619521 Andrew |

from my brain, the 1st 2 digits indicate the week of the year, the 3rd digit the day of the week
the 9 is a constant the last 3 digits are a running number of the production week so, 2619521 should be: week 26 (looks like end of June) 1 = Monday body #521 from week 26 if you tell us the VIN - at least the digit after the leading 47 - we could find out the exact building date of your 914 body if my memory is bad, Dave will tell you the truth (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:http://www.oct.at/images/Smile_wavey.gif) Gustl |

I would never have guessed what it meant without your explanation ! Many thanks. Chassis Number is 4732925202. So does this mean it was manufactured June 72 or Jun 73 ? I was desperately hoping it was manufactured in 72. There is a marvelously unfair law in the UK that says if your car is from 1972 you don't pay road tax because it is classified as a classic vehicle for tax purposes. If it is 1973 you pay full road tax as if it is a new car ! Can you tell what specification my car originally was ? engine, trim, etc. Original engine has long since been removed and is now a 914-6 GT replica with all the bulgy bits. Hope to get it back on the road very soon |
