I've got a lead on a suspension from a 78 SC. Is this a good candidate for a 5 lug conversion? What would be a good offer?

No, it would be an awful suspension for your 914. Send it to me, I'll only charge you $35 to take it off your hands.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
