Plug the ports and forget the chokes. I have yet to see anybody install and route the cables needed to make them work..cleanly.

What about using the e-brake or heater cable tubes for the cables? Prolly not using them

The heater cables would be perfect with the handle and everything... but it would be easier for you to adapt a 914/6 method that utilized a small handle much like the heater handle and used a rod to push on the accelerator pedal arm. It mounted in the front slot of the shifter.

The cables are too short from the factory heater lever. I'm not sure they would work well extended to the proper length. The angles needed to get to the carbs would be a little extreme.

Look into the pieces that the 6 used. The early 911's with carbs used the same parts and all the shifters have the "slot" in them for the lever arm.

I used a pair of bicycle brake cables (inner and outer) and went to a bunch of trouble to hookup the chokes to the heater control lever and they actually worked. They dump in some extra fuel but it seems no additional air is let in so I finally unhooked them to get rid of the cables.

Thanks John,

I had NO idea they only added fuel. Sounds like the factory 6 kit would work for all the carbed cars running around out there.

what about those "automatic" chokes they had on the VW?
you know, press the gas pedal down completely before starting the car will lock in the choke, and when the car warms up, it unlocks itself. could you get that to work on the 914 carbs???

Hi all!
I am running dual 44 idf 's and they work fine! Nice throaty sound and breathe well going any where, and breathe extremely well when wide open and accelerating, loves to run at 2500 to rpm redline.....as for chokes, never hooked em up. i start my car by: giving two gas pedal pushes, (gets accelerator pump squirting some fuel ready to go), start the car an blip rpm's for 10 - 30 sec, (depending on temp outside) and then let the car warm up for a minute or two....no hurries! love the setup, but have a question as to how much airfilter one can stick under the rain tray?

i am currently running them w/o stacks and short square airfilters (bought the vw bus kit - not a lot of airfilter clearance in there!) want to run stacks and some taller airfilters (round) any one have this setup? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

oooooooooooohh! just thought of something! what if you had two samll choke cables, and hooked em up too a small solenoid at the rear of the engine compartment? that would be sweet and super slick! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)
