I don't usually read this magazine but saw on the cover a mention of the 914 article so I bought it. Excellent explanation of the upgrades to BMW front calipers, etc.

This was actually one of the last articles in a series about their 914 project car. Has anyone read any of the articles, are they worth trying to find?

Wow, great stopping...except he needed rotors after 3 sessions. Tore them UP!!!

okay - i'm reconsidering. that kind of rotor wear is simply unacceptable in a DE environment. in a competition environment where you expect a 'cost to win' tradeoff, maybe. i need something that will offer good, CONSISTENT cold performance and NOT fade in a 2-driver DE environment...

that carbon/Kevlar stuff, maybe ?

Well, golly Rich. Either you don't read this stuff or
you don't think much of my story of a 2 driver DE experience. Maybe an expert can help ya (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

i -do- (did) read it all, but i can't remember everything all at once :-) ...

and i didn't get until your followup and re-re-re-reading your post that you have a 2-driver situation. (in fact, i was originally wondering who this Chuck person was and why he was relevant ...)

our weight and power requirements are comparable, although i suspect you have lots more power and way less weight. we are running the same caliper setups - although i have a bit more weight in back (but no proportioner...)

i ran the front pads i plan to re-use at Willow Springs and a couple of sessions at Riverside - until the car went off... they're stock 930 pads, and i found them to be just fine. what i won't know until i'm 'in it' is what the braking situation is on the tracks around here...

maybe i'll just lay in another set of 930 pads and see how they fly ...

I'm surprised to hear that they ate up a set of rotors like that. I have no major rotor wear to speak of. Maybe they were suspect rotors from the beginning?

Herb, give me a day and I'll come by and hook you up with some ducts. It took me all of about 25 minutes on my car!

great matt!! I am working all weekend, so I will give you a call.

The rotors that were tore up were on a Supra...on the 914, I have gone over 2+ years with no wear at all...

I just don't use the brakes..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
