After extensive searching I finally found a VW Double Cab at a decent price. I found a guy in the Netherlands on TheSamba that finds VW's and resells them. It looks like he does most of his business with the guys in the UK.

It looks pretty bad on first glance. The paint is horrible. After getting a closer look at the usual places it is pretty rust free. Just a little rust under the windshield and by the rear wheel wells. It is a 79 eurospec with a type 1 engine in it. Eventually I will have to upgrade it with a bigger engine. Right now I just have to fix a few problems to get it driving ready. It should make a nice daily driver while I rebuild the 914 motor.

(thank God for understanding wives) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Good find!! I've got a friend with a '59 double cab, so needless to say it has a lot of rust. He's going for the well used (rat rod) look with it right now. It runs and drives well with 17" rims and tires tucked up inside the fender wells.

Granted, your pic is a flat black buss in the shade, so I can't really see a lot fo the paint, but I think that is a pretty cool paint scheme.

John Walker, Porsche guru, has one of those with a 3.2l 911 engine and 911 suspension it it. Needless to say it is very cool. Nice find. I have always liked those.

That is my collection of fun stuff. 76 914, 2000 Aprilia Mille R, and the 79 Double Cab. Needless to say, I won't be buying any new "projects" or toys for a while.

Everything so far is pretty rust free. I have to drop the motor and transmission sometime in the next couple weeks to work on a bunch of different things. I have to figure out the whole heating system too.

The weather over here is not too bad lately. It stopped raining constantly about a month ago. My wife loves the cooler weather. I am still wishing that we had a real summer.

Nice ! I had two crew cabs back in the '80-the most fun cars I ever owned, the 914 is close though. Enjoy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
