Okay, I finally submitted my VIN to my profile. Are these automatically put into a database? If so, is there a way to access this database (searches or simple counts)?
I also looked at the production numbers and was surprised that less than 120,000 vehicles were produced! That's a lot less than what I expected and, in an elitest way, that's kinda neat that there aren't many around...poor man's close to the Miura (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Funny, over 3 million VW Type III's were made but good luck finding new parts for it! Less than 120K 914's were made and parts (in particular, sheet metal and seals) are easy to find! Go figure (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

List buy year and seperate the 9146 vin's is my vote.
It also depends on how you are going to deal with additions as time goes on. Will it be live updates ? B |

This all assumes of course that the members have entered legitimate VIN numbers in their controls. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

QUOTE 4 = Model Number (914) 70 = Year I always thought it was: 47= type 47 - as in what VWPorsche called our beloved beasts 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 = designating the model year i.e. 1=71, 6=76 The difference is in the meaning of the '7' Can anyone confirm which way is correct? Happy New Year!!! Jeff |

This "what does my VIN number mean" question comes up quite a bit...almost as much as "what tire size can I have if I want my speedo to be correct". Maybe on the VIN page or somewhere else, someone (Andy) can write a little program where a member can just add their VIN and it will parse all that info out for them and display it for all it's glory.....maybe??
