It needs a new throttle cable. Somebody overtightened the original housing and it broke... they used a friggin hose clamp to hold the cabe to the plenum... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Shouldnt be any hose clamps on the intake plenum from the runners. Buy new connectors.

Chat with Bowlsby about a new wiring harness.. that one is shit.

The junction for the breather lines (from the heads) should sit (screwed down) to the fan shroud just to the left of the breather (from passenger side pic).

This thing... right now it is sitting behind the air cleaner near the top of the fuel pressure regulator.

The two "legs" on the bottom receive hoses from the heads. The top one goes into the air cleaner.

David,

Don't get freaked out by Brad's picking. He's got a good eye and I've seen him do this in person several times. Unsuspecting folks will ask him to look at something and it just starts coming, and coming. He'll notice everything odd-ball.

Don't let it freak you out though, just make a list.

I want the cars right. The cars have a bad wrap with most people and it is because most people dont take care of them. This one was hacked together by some home user with crap from Pep Boys. It pisses me off. It really irks me when a fellow 914 person sells cars and doesnt make any attempt to fix this little crap.

Chris,

The top of the throttle body has a rubber fitting on it that seems to slip on the inside of the air box but I could not get it all the way down nor could I get it to stay.

How does it stay? Is there suppose to be a clamp on the top part like the lower part?

Yes, there is a clamp, which has the screw that is fixed to the throttle body. It should be on the air box. maybe it just came apart, but it looks suspitious to me..

Take the airbox out buddy, look on the sides (front-back actually) at the bottom clamps hanging down...

The one toward the trunk needs to be in place first, they get caught on the lid spring things, and/or in front of the plate they clamp to..

If they don't hold it down well, bend them til they do.

Once the air cleaner comes out of the rubber grommet.. you have to pull the whole assembly off the car and press the rubber piece with the clamp back into the air cleaner. It presses in with some minor force. The reinstall the air cleaner.

David:
Don't worry man, you're in good hands.
These guys (esp. Brad) really know their shit when it comes to these cars.
Bookmark this page and check it out often.
I'm not sure where I'd be without all the help I've received from the guys on this board over the lat few months. They are always willing to go the extra mile to help a 914 guy out (even if he is from WI).
Good luck with the 914.
Andy...
P.S. Sorry no tech support, just moral support....

David, while you are in there...

Replace all the rubber fuel lines, clean up the electrical grounds, and replace ALL fuses. This engine bay looks like it fits well into the 'deferred maintenance' category. Clean it up and it should be fine.

Check all the wiring harnesses for brittle, broken wire insulation and main harness casing, corroded wire terminals and missing boots. Post photos of any questionable wiring issues. Your alternator harness is coming through the engine tin hole for the drivers side heater J-tube...the grommet on the alternator harness should go through the smaller hole aft of the J-tube hole.

Welcome to 914 owner-dom... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

Momentary threadjack:

Jeff (if you see this again)

What would you substitute as a CHT connect on the harness? I don't like that thing getting hot, and floppy.

The car is home now. Just need to put it in the garage.

The main problem was that oil breather hose. Now it idles at 1000 when cold and 1500 warm.

I will have to take pictures and show them to everyone.

Feeling with my fingers I found a fist sized hole on both the driver and passenger side for the hell hole areas.
Pin holes on driver's side engine wall.
Both water shoots(tunnels) have holes in them.

This is not looking good.

Positive note. Engine pulls strong and tranny seems fine. Little finicky about 1st gear from a complete stop but not bad.
