I had two shift boots I was cleaning up for sale, when I noticed a difference in the base. One has the side cut off and the other is round. I never noticed this before. The only ones I had seen before were cut off. The leather on one boot is much thinner and supple than the other.....Hummm..........

Hmmmm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I always thought that all shift lever boots, /4 or /6, appearance group or not, on early cars looked like this........

Mark's shift boots came with the console introduced in 1973 MY.
Perhaps the round base piece was an early one before they decided it did not fit well, and started chopping off the one side.
