I want to get my motor on the run-in stand I built and touch it off.
Anyone want to come over and play? Anytime is good, unless my wife goes into labor. Then I kick you all out and go have a baby. Things I need to do: Get more dino oil. Put together the "dashboard" for the testing stand (tach, ignition, ?throttle?) Mount the engine and tranny on the stand Run it. I got a lot done today. I bet we could get it running tomorrow if I had help. Zach |

Today (Saturday)? Tomorrow? How far are you from Hagerstown? Today. Maybe tomrrow too. Depends if the baby comes or not. From hagarstown.... 80 miles. Pick up 15 in Thurmont. Take 15N to PA-30W to York. Take 30W to I-83 South. About 6 miles later, get off I-83 at 74S. Stay on 74 into dallastown (5 miles?) and turn Right on to South Park Street. I'm a brick farm house, 330. Zach |

So, no engine break in today.
I did not get firm contact from anyone, so took a leasurely pace getting to work this AM. I got the engine on the run-in stand. I was putting on the tin (I HATE doing that - stupid jig saw puzzle) around noon when Ken (Zymurgist) showed up - a very pleasant surprise. We got a little done, and was looking very promising to get the engine broken in. As we were mounting the tranny, we noticed that one of the engine case to tranny studs was bent. DOH! So, that pretty much killed all possibility of running the motor today. I ordered 2 new studs from McMaster - Carr, but they won't get here till next week sometime. I fabbed up a SIMPLE throttle cable bracket for the engine, and got the dashboard underway for the run in stand (power, starter button, tach, hand throttle, maybe an oil light will be added, but not really needed). I am trying to figure out a cheap and easy way to make a hand throttle on the dash. Ken took pics, and will post them up in here later. I'm really close. If it had not been for the bent stud (not sure how that happened, it was good in October at Rod's place) I think I would have been breaking in the new pistons and rings. Zach |

Not to be a downer Zach my man but dont you want to break in the engine with a load? as in the cars weight supplying positive a negitive pressure on the rings?
I did alot of reseach on this matter and the consensus seems to be to beat on it to seat them rings! I could be wrong but then I wouldnt be alone.... Good luck on the baby and the other baby! |

I am going to use the break in that Raby described. 2500 RPM for 20 minutes. Then tune the carbs, do another valve adjustment, and put the whole mess in the car.
But, not today. I'M A DAD! FUCH YEAH! Zach |
